Editing chapter one

I'm currently writing my first novel. It's simultaneously the thing I want to do the most, and the thing I want to do the least. It's every spare hour and every excuse not to spend an hour, all wrapped up in one. It's the reason I'm writing this blog post after shamefully neglecting the blog for so long, because I don't, must, won't, need to write the bloody thing, and I can't quite make my fingers do it right now.

The church of you and I

I take my place among the pews
At the church of you and I.

My head bowed, hands clasped, kneeling
I close my eyes and give in to feeling.

For forever to last another day,
For forever to last forever.

Soft light casts a glow over your face,
Those curves and lines I know by heart.

Love is tangible, physical, beating,
As constant as it once was fleeting.

To love you with abandon,
To free you with faith.

Clasped hands form steeples,
Bodies become pillars.

Here is light, freedom, song
In the church of two, where we belong.

Back together, baking and looking for homes

It's been a while since we posted. Larry has been with me in the UK on another visitor visa since June and we're so happy to be back together that we forgot about the blog. Here's a bit of an update.

Currently we're looking for places to live on the other side of London, and starting to think about planning our wedding next year. Work keeps me busy and Larry is studying for some great I.T. qualifications to help him get a job with normal hours when he's able to work over here, rather than working in retail.

I'm looking into a PHD, I miss studying and my Masters feels like a long time ago.

Soon we'll be in our new place, hopefully with a kitten, and keeping the blog up-to-date with delicious recipes. Lary'll be posting his new bread recipes soon - his loaves are delicious!

Watch this space for our cooking channel when we get set up in our new home.

Anyone who's been in a long term, long distance relationship will understand the brain-bashing frustration of trying to snatch a quick 10 minute phone call between commitments, static and data limitations.

How to buy groceries in the UK if you're American

Larry has some good advice for Americans who are facing the daunting task of supermarket shopping in the UK. It isn't easy to do simple things like choose sausages, identify strangely named cheeses and understand the differences between 'cookies' and 'biscuits'. So if you're planning to cook in the UK here are some handy hints and tips.

The story of our ring

My grandparents had a strong marriage for fifty years, despite being separated during a world war and having the occasional plate-smashing argument. Now I'm all grown up and my grandparents have passed on, but the spirit of their love and commitment lives in the colours of the opal in my ring.
